Happy President’s Day! I think…!
So last week was not terribly exciting, training wise. We obedienced, we protected, but most of all, we tracked.
And tracking is so freaking hard, you guys.
Brody has a pretty solid foundation, but we’re just now starting to really push his limits. Last week I tested him out a bit by pulling all of the food off the track and laying a true IPO1 regulation track.
It…did not go well.
I mean, it was fine. Well, part of it was fine. Brody had a grand old time. He was very happy with himself as I dragged him back to the truck afterward.
We clearly have a lot of work to do. So we’re going to back up a bit and try to fill in some holes in our training over the next couple of months. I had made a promise to myself that I was going to be sure to track every single day for the next couple of months, but then it snowed for the first time all year, so…
We’re entered to do a UPR1 (obedience only title) at a trial in less than two weeks, so we’ve been working on cleaning all of that up. My biggest worry is the send-out, but I have to be sure not to hammer on it too much between now and then. I’m trying to be very zen about it – “what will be, will be”.
I’m fairly confident about everything else, but if there’s anything I’ve learned, it’s that anything can happen on trial day.
Finally, here’s a video of Brody at 6am this morning when I let him out to pee…never a dull moment with a Malinois!
